Pastruck @ Sangnamdong

Pastruck is one of the newer Italian restaurants that has popped up in Sangnamdong. From the outside it seems like your average Italian restaurant that caters to the normal Korean crowd. I was wandering about with my lady friend and we decided that the name was interesting enough. It has pasta, pizza, salad, and some alcohol. I'll be honest, the true draw of this place has little to do with the food. So let's start with that!

 Caeser Salad
To start off we decided to try the Caeser Salad. I've been trying to get in some sort of shape lately. Square? Circle? Triangle? I'm hoping for Rhombus. If I get a salad, my mind believes that anything I ingest after eating said salad will somehow contribute to some sort of massive weight loss. It's kind of my diet gateway food. Anyway, it was delicious enough. It came with some pretty fresh tomatoes and there were some parts of it that weren't overly saturated. The price wasn't bad either. If you're looking for a decent appetizer, this will satisfy two people as they wait for their meals. It can also be eaten as a whole meal, which is what I did that night.

Carbonara
My lovely date for the evening is a huge fan of Carbonara, so usually when we go to an Italian place at least one of us will always order it. This particular one came in a huge dish. I mean HUGE. To quote a college buddy of mine, "It was ridonkulous." This plate/bowl looked like an upside down Sombrero. (Which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you enjoy giant Mexican hat sized portions.) It was pretty tasty. Not in my top 5, but it was pretty nice. It had vegetables splattered throughout, with  a volcanolike swirl of spaghetti in the middle. Sadly, this was it for food for the night. (Rhombus Diet, etc.)

Green Apple Mojito
Recently, I have found a new drink that embodies everything I like about alcohol. Basically my rules are: 1.Sweet  2. Refreshing 3. Cheap. Now, on to this Mojito. Does anybody remember those lollipops that had that sour green apple flavor? This tasted like someone took some white rum and those lollipops and then smashed them together in some kind of lollipop destroying mechanism, then put that in a glass and added sugar and mint leaves. This was the sweetest Mojito I have ever had. It didn't have too much rum either. The gf decided to go with a Strawberry one. It was a little bit more tolerable but no where near on par the best Mojitos in town. (The next post: Lounge Groo in Sangnam for those wondering.) I would suggest skipping these unless you absolutely needed a sugar fix. I finished it, but even though I pride myself as a man who is fond of sweet things, this was intense.

If the true draw of this place wasn't food, then what was so great about it? Well, the reason I like this place and would not mind going back and giving one of their pizzas or different dishes a try is because the inside is designed to look like the inside of a Tractor Trailer. This is where the name Pastruck comes from. It is a combination of Pasta and Truck. I for one, never imagined that these two things would go together, but it has a certain charm.

The ceilings are painted black with lights and some metal bars hanging over your head as you dine. The floor is a combination of yellow and black with road signs interspersed inside of the restaurant. There is some more natural flooring within.  There are some tables out in the open and two sections off to the sides. The walls have storage spaces as I assume a truck would have.

Some of the tables are located right next to the windows that over look the center of Sangnamdong. This makes it a very easy location to find.

Pay on the left-Elevators on the right.

Prices
They were reasonable and what you would expect form an Italian place in Changwon. Around 8-14,000원 for pasta dishes. 12-19,000원 for pizza.

Pros

- You are eating Italian food inside of a tractor trailer.

-The food was pretty good. It wasn't the best but I wouldn't mind going again.

-The wait staff was awesome. They were always ready and available.

Cons

-Mojito was sub-par. Way too sweet.

-Nothing that some of the other Italian places in town don't have.

Directions

This place is very easy to find. Go to the middle of Sangnam right by the south gate of the Sangnam market. It is right across the street from the giant fountain. The giant white lettering on the sign is impossible to miss.
